Race Report by Patrick Fankhauser:

The 3rd round of Swiss nationals was held on the resurfaced track at Langenthal.
The club did a good job. The new asphalt is smooth and fast, with a minimum of tire wear.
Friday afternoon we had 6 rounds of free practice and they count the fastest 3 consecutive laps. My Car and my Picco engine worked perfect and I was able to set the fastest time by 0.2 sec ahead of my teammate Traugott Schär.

The weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday looked very hot with over 30 degrees. During the qualification we struggled a little bit with our set-up. After 2 minutes of racing the rear diff became of cause the high temperature too soft and the car oversteered. So i finished the qualifications on the 4th place behind Thilo Thödtmann, Niclas Scherrer and Traugott Schär. Marco Rizzo took second place on starting grid behind Thilo with the fastest lap at Super Pole!

For the Semi Final I decided to drive with the solid axle and w

ith a harder rear diff (100k). For sure, the solid axle was not the best solution but the car felt a lot easier to drive. I was able to win the semifinal and took the 3rd place on grid for the 30 minute long A-main. Overall we had 5 Xray NT1 in the A-main!

After a collision in the 6th lap I drop back to 6th place. After 7 minutes and a flame out of second placed Raphael Wicki i was back on the 2nd place behind Thilo. At 20 minutes mark Thilo had a technical issue and I was promoted to the lead of the race. I won the race by 7 laps ahead of my two teammates Michael Schäfer and Jakob Bühler – congratulations!

TOP 3:

1. Patrick Fankhauser – XRAY NT1
2. Michael Schäfer – XRAY NT1
3. Jakob Bühler – XRAY NT1

With this win I took the overall lead, with two races to go and still 4 drivers with chances to be crowned as Swiss champion 2018!

In 1/8 scale my teammates Mattia Pesenti and Luca Martinelli showed a great pace. They finished 2nd and 3rd behind vice world champion Simon Kurzbuch! Congratulations to all of you!

TOP 3:

1. Kurzbuch Simon – Shepherd
2. Pesenti Mattia – XRAY RX8
3. Martinelli Luca – XRAY RX8

At least I would say thank you to my girlfriend Sue for supporting me and for the pictures, to my pit crew Dad (qualifications) and Ariane (finals), T+M Models for the perfect support and help to make my package faster and to Dragonpaints for the nice Paintwork!
