Race report by CJ Jelin
This past weekend I attended the 2018 Reedy Race of champions at OCRC. I raced open 2wd buggy and open 4wd buggy. The layout of the week was, Wednesday open practice, Thursday 1. heat of open practice and 2. seeding rounds. Friday three rounds of qualifying. Saturday one round of qualifying and lower mains. Sunday was main day.
Wednesday the track was loose but was only getting better the more people ran on it. I ended the day with my cars feeling good and ready for seeding.
Thursday, was the first day on the reedy race tires. The first couple runs on my 2wd tires my car didn’t have good side bite or forward drive. My 4wd had good forward drive and side bite after the first free practice.
After two rounds of seeding I had the fastest time in open 4wd and the fourth fastest in 2wd. Friday was qualifying, the first round of 4wd qualifying I had a clean run to get the TQ for the first round. My 2wd run was also really good I had a 3rd for the round. The second round of qualifying for 4wd I was really nervous and crashed way to much to finish 11th for the round. In 2wd I had a bad run on my part that put me 17th for the round. Round 3 of qualifying in 4wd I had a better run to get a 2nd for the round. In 2wd for the third round of qualifying I had a 12th for the round. Saturday was qualifying and lower mains. In 4wd I had a really good run that gave me the TQ for the round and overall TQ. My 2wd run I had one mistake but was able to get a 3rd for the round that put me 4th for the a main.
Sunday mains, after watching the invite people and lower mains run I had seen that the grip had came up and tire wear was getting high. Then I had an A main warm up for both cars. I could tell that the grip came up and that had my cars feeling good for mains. A1 of 4wd mod buggy, I was nervous for the first couple minutes then started driving how I should and finished 2nd. A1 of 2wd mod buggy, I had a really bad run and finished 9th. A2 decides the winner of the reedy race in open 4wd and open 2wd. The start of 4wd A2 I had a small mistake that let Aydin Horne get past. Then he had a mistake in the same lap and I was back in first. I had a clean run with no mistakes to take the win in A2 and the overall for open 4wd buggy. A2 of 2wd buggy I had changed some setup and it gave me more side bite and forward drive. At the start of A2 I passed 3rd and just before the straight away 1st and 2nd crashed on the 2nd lap. I then drove around the outside and lead the rest of the race to win A2 and finish 3rd overall in open 2wd buggy. Congrats to Brad Shearer for the win in 2wd. Thank you to the Tessmann’s, Ron Schuur, Kevin Palmer, Brian Strange, and my family at home for all the support this past weekend on and off the track.

Race report by Ty Tessmann
This past weekend I race the Offroad Reedy Race of Champions, at OCRC in Huntington Beach, CA. The top drivers in the world are invited to participate in the Invite portion of the event which is comprised of 6 rounds of heads up racing for each 2WD and 4WD, your top 5 finishes from each class are counted for the combined total and that is how the winner is determined.
The track layout was very challenging, there were 2 very demanding triples along a rythym section and a whoops section all these parts combined made it very hard to clean consistent laps. Everyone in the invite class was limited to 3 practice runs for each car.
4WD would be run first, my XB4 was amazing, I felt going in to the races that I would do very well, and my confidence was high. First heat I started in 10th place and made my way up to finish 2nd, in the second race I started in position 4 and was able to win that one, after those 2 rounds everything seemed to go down hill. It seemed I would experience some unfortunate circumstances during the next few races and would finish 5th, 6th, 3rd and 2nd which was unfortunate because my car was amazing and I definitely should have had better results.
Going into the 2WD portion I was sitting 6thoverall, we would get one more practice session in 2WD just to get back in the 2wd groove . Since the grip had come up since we last ran 2wd, I made a couple of changes to the car. In the first 2wd heat I started in the 1st position, my car felt really good and I was able to maintain the lead to take the win, in the 2nd heat I started in the 10th position, the car was really good again, I made my way up a bit but made a mistake all on my own which set me back and I would have to settle for a 6th. The next 4 races for 2WD, I started in the 3, 9, 3 and 5 positions, my XB2 was super good and I was able to win all 4 races and since we were allowed to drop 1 I had a perfect score for 2WD. With my combined points I finished in 2nd, 3 points behind Dustin Evans who won, great job Dustin!
The XRAY team worked very well together this weekend with Cj Jelin taking the TQ and win in the Open 4WD class and Cj also took 3rd in the Open 2WD class with Tommy Hinz finishing 2nd in Open 2WD.
All my equipment performed flawlessly this weekend and allowed me to finish where I did.
I want to thank my sponsors for giving me the opportunity to race with amazing products, Xray, RC America, Proline, OS Engines, Hobbywing, MKS, VP Fuel, A Main Hobbies, Protek RC, Hudy, Lunsford, Avid, StickIt 1, Darkside Designs, 110% Racing, MR33, Live RC, Red RC.
Thanks to my family for always being there for me and supporting me, and most importantly I want to thank my my Lord ad Saviour Jesus Christ.
