New Zealand Champions 2023

Interessant ist, was so in der Welt gefahren wird und wer dort an den Start geht. Dazu gibt es einen Bericht von Kyle George aus New Zaeland.Last weekend I attended the 2023 1/10th Off-road RC Nationals hosted by CMR down in Wellington. With myself not having done much racing in the past few years (especially 10th on dirt) and picking up a new deal to racing for XRAY New Zealand my expectations were to keep it clean and make all the mains in the 5 classes I entered.

Thursday, Friday
After a day of practice and a day of seeding, it was definitely a confidence booster. Going into the two main days of racing knowing I was on the pace of the front guys. All I had to do was put together no mistake qualifying and finals runs and I had a shot at some podiums.

Saturday (2wd Classes)
Running three classes (2wd stock, mod and stock truck) on one day was a little bit stressful, with quick turnarounds between racings. Also the fact it had been 2019 since my last nationals definitely made me have to overcome the nerves that comes with racing at this level.
I managed to put together some clean qualifying runs to put my new 2023 XB2 4th in stock and 3rd in mod. While also putting my stock truck in 3rd.

For the finals I gained a lot of confidence in driving my stock buggy in both classes, bringing home 3NZ in stock and 2NZ in mod. In truck I struggled a little bit on setup and with never racing one before, a couple little mistakes cost me any chances at a podium, only good enough for 5NZ.

2WD Modified results:

  2. Kyle George – XB2D’23
  3. Logan Toia

2WD Stock results:

  2. Steve Oyston
  3. Kyle George – XB2D’23

2WD SCT results:

  1. Matthew Spackman
  2. Luke Prattley – SCX’23
  3. Keegan Levien – SCX’23

Sunday (4wd Classes)
with only having to worry about two cars and now onto my 4th day of racing I was feeling much more confident.
Qualifying in my new 2023 XB4 stock buggy was incredible, it was such a blast to drive. I was able to put together 12 lap runs and to take my first ever TQ! My Mod buggy was a different beast, with having a lot of power on such a small track definitely made for some interesting driving. I settled it down and put together a p2 result.

Carrying on from the hype of my first TQ, I put my head down, stayed out of trouble and brought home the clean sweep and my first Off-road NZ title! In the Mod I had some great races to eventually bring it home for 3NZ.

4WD Stock results:

  1. Kyle George (TQ) – XB4D’23
  2. Steve Oyston
  3. Keegan Levien – XB4D

4WD Modified results:

  1. Logan Toia
  2. William Hargreaves
  3. Kyle George – XB4D

Overall it was a great week with the boys and a mega result with a new team! Definitely exceeded my expectations going into the event and I’m looking forward to working on the cars and fight for more race wins!
Lastly there is a whole bunch of people I want to thank who for one made this event what it was and for those who helped get me there last weekend to achieve some great results.
Firstly to the CMR club who put on one of the best run meetings I’ve been to in a long time, the track was honestly incredible to race on and the consistency of it for 4 days was a credit to the prep you all put in.

Kenley Brown from One 7 RC and XRAY New Zealand. For giving me the opportunity and the equipment I needed to fight for podiums all weekend.
Keegan Levien from Capital RC for putting me up for the weekend and giving me everything I need on the day to get the job done. Plus it’s always a good RC trip with you pal.
Braedon Clark from Crash Paints RC New Zealand for absolutely smashing out my new shells, they look incredible and came away with one of the concourse trophies as a result!
My partner Emma Alisha Wiggett for staying home to look after our two dogs, while also supporting me with all the toy car racing I do. I know it can be a lot and I hope you know I really appreciate everything you do to help me do it.
Shane Kinsey and Brad Mcgee for all the banter, laughs and support over the week, definitely appreciated it!
Lexi Hendrikse for also putting me up for the weekend and cooking us a great roast after a long days racing.
Daniel Huia for the epic photos he got of us over the weekend!
Lastly to the products and sponsors.
